After visiting the piggery site, the group went to Metinaro near the army base and visited a community house for disabled people, most of whom are crippled. A training centre is being built, so that the disabled people can teach computer skills to the local community. A couple of the disabled men have done IT training on scholarship overseas to carry out this work. “The conditions could do with some improvement, but it is a huge social advance, ” says Chris.
Later, he went with Father Adrian Ola to Ahisaun House in Dili, another initiative for the disabled which Father has been supporting for years. Chris said that it was great to meet the people and talk about what they do. They have IT training for the community similar to the plan for Metinaro.
